We investigated how well eggs float in water from the tap and then what happens when we add salt to the water.  We discovered the eggs sank to the bottom in the tap water and floated when salt was added.  When salt is added to the water, it becomes denser or heavier.  When the water is denser than the egg, the egg floats.  The added salt makes the water denser.

Ocean water is more dense than fresh water so that is why it is easier for a person to float in the ocean than in a swimming pool.
