Science this week was all about balloons.  We observed them and used our senses to find out more about balloons.  We wanted to see how strong they were so we put them underneath a table and 3 people stood on the table.  We also used a meat skewer and poked it through the balloon at it’s thickest part.  Our record was 4 skewers in one balloon before it lost all its air.  We learnt that the balloons are made of  polymers which are  long strands of molecules. The stretchiness  of these polymer chains causes rubber to stretch. Blowing up the balloon stretches these strands of polymer chains.
