Today we solved some fraction problems with chocolate.  We had 2 bars of chocolate on two tables at the front of the room and one by one we had to choose which group to belong to so we could get the most chocolate. Each bar had 56 squares of chocolate.  After we had made our choice we had 14 in each group.  We worked out that each person would get 4 pieces of chocolate each.  Then we made the problem more complicated.  One table had two bars of chocolate and the other table had only one.  One by one, we made our choice.  The results were interesting!!.  At first we had exactly the same number of students in each group again.  After some discussion some students decided to move.   16 students chose to be in the 2 bar group and 12 students were in the 1 bar group.  We recorded what we did using our maths knowledge.  And we got to eat the chocolate.
