‘The Queen’s Knickers – what a great way to explain to the children how the Queen has knickers for every occasion.

If flying in a plane – pull the cord and she has a parachute.

If on a boat  – pull the cord and she has a life raft.

The Queen was due at Tomarata School to open the Commonwealth Games  – what knickers would she wear?

Room 2 decided that we would like to give her a pair of knickers to remember Tomarata School and set about making a pair of knickers to give to the queen.

First we made a criteria to which we had to design the knickers:  The knickers had to have something that was special to Tomarats School and then something that represented the classroom.

Like beavers we worked hard designing what we thought the knickers should be like.  Then it was in making mode.

Oh oh – the knickers could only be made from things found in the classroom.

With the help of our Teacher Aide Naomi – we painted the Tomarata Logo on the back of the knickers and on the front we painted symbols representing Reading, Writing and Maths.

Now we had the problem of stitching the pieces together – no sewing machine!!!!!

Don’t worry  – we have a staple gun.  And so in small groups we made the knickers, and just in time we finished the knickers to present to the Queen at the Tomarata Commonwealth Games.

We very happy to see that the  Queen found sometime to slip inside and model our knickers at the games.

We look forward to seeing them again when she comes to visit us in the future.
