Dear Parents, Caregivers and Families
Kia ora, kia orana, talofa, malo e lelei, fakaalofa atu, hello and greetings

From the Principal

Well what a fantastic time we had on Friday- right down to the weather. I thoroughly enjoyed my first Tomarata School Show Day. The lambs that wouldn’t come when called, the calves that just wanted to lie down, and who can forget Cody the Scottish Highland calf that managed to escape and evade ( and bowl over) the energetic dads that gave chase. I want to thank you, our special community, who came to support our student’s efforts in all the different arenas. It was lovely to meet and greet many new parents and whanau.  I was amazed at the level of excellence shown in the dioramas, vaseline saucers, gardens and sculptures. The student stalls were well patronised enabling them to raise well over $1,000! Thank you for supporting them. I also wish to thank our hardworking Helping Hands group of ladies for the scrummy food on sale, and raffles. I hope everyone enjoyed the prizes that they won. I am looking forward to my first Fireworks Night next! Some of you may receive a phone call for help on the Fireworks night from an HH member, as we are short and desperately need assistance.

On a less happy note we have sadly had to cancel the senior camp for the end of the year due to the unexpected exorbitant price hike. The children from Rooms 6 & 7 will enjoy a Wider Living Week instead full of fun activities like hiking, rock climbing and swimming. We will ensure that we have better options for camp next year.

On Thursday, our school will be travelling to Pakiri to take part in the Rodney Rural Schools Cross Country event. The children have been practising long distance running since last week. It would be wonderful if you could come to support them. With the warmer weather on its way, please ensure that your child has enough food and water. a hat and sunscreen for the day, as well as a change of clothes and a jacket in case it’s cold.

Our senior students had some cricket coaching on Monday which they really enjoyed. We also had Hiwi the Kiwi on Monday afternoon, which Pakiri School came to watch with us.

Lastly I want to give HUGE congratulations to Taine Sawyer in Room 4 who competed in kickboxing in POLAND and won a GOLD medal for his age group. We are so very proud of you Taine-way to go!

Congratulations to the following students who have gained a place in the Northland Stingrays Junior Tag  Ayla, Eden & Ellie representing the under 8’s and Leon, George & Chase in the under 10’s team. Well done.

I hope you have a fantastic Labour weekend and do something lovely with family and friends.

Nga mihi
