We continue to enjoy science on a regular basis in Room Two. Recently we made ‘milky’ plastic by adding vinegar to cows milk to separate out the casein. Ellie brought in to some fresh milk straight from the cow, and we compared our yield from this with that collected from supermarket ‘blue top’ milk. As we thought, Ellie’s milk was richer and produced more plasticky material for us to play with. We left it to dry for a couple of days and then tried to make it into shapes. It was very smelly!

We’re also lucky enough to have a fabulous new water play trough that we are sharing with Room One. Last week we put it to good use to investigate whether an object would float or sink! We had fun predicting what would – or wouldn’t float – and then recorded what actually happened, and our ‘wonderings’ about the outcomes.

Next we are planning to make some outrigger canoes to try out in our trough; these will fit in with our current topic study around life on a Pacific Island.
