Today we used all our scientist skills to try and find out how party poppers work. We dismantled a popper to see how it was constructed. The tiny streamers were tightly rolled and fitted into a very small space. When we pulled the string it created friction which lit the gun powder that was in a little stick. The pressure from the explosion made by the gun powder pushed the streamers out of the popper. We heard a really loud bang when we pulled the string. We could smell the gunpowder and we could see a little bit of vapour rising from the popper. The streamers were colourful and went everywhere.
