Tomarata Fireworks 2025 Update – Event cancelled

It’s with heavy hearts that we share that Tomarata Fireworks 2025 will not be going ahead this November.

Our long-standing pyrotechnics partner, who has supported the event for over 15 years, has had to withdraw at short notice. Without them, we cannot safely or responsibly deliver the fireworks show our community deserves.

We know this will be disappointing news to many, and we are just as disappointed. Tomarata Fireworks has always been about bringing the community together while raising vital funds for Tomarata School, and we remain committed to keeping that spirit alive in the future.

Thank you for your ongoing support of our school, our students, and this much-loved community tradition.

About us

What began as a small, sparkly gathering two decades ago has now exploded into one of the region’s must-see events. Nearly 5,000 people from all over – Warkworth, Wellsford, Mangawhai, Matakana, Kaiwaka, and Maungaturoto – come together every year for a night of epic fireworks and family fun.

Our star of the show? Tomarata School. A charming rural school near Wellsford, established in 1934. With a rich history, a strong sense of community, and 80 students, we proudly live by our whakatauki: “Poipoia te kakano kia puawai” (Nurture the seed and it will blossom).

Thanks to past events, we’ve been able to purchase a school van, computers and iPads, implement literacy programs, and so much more! Your support has made a world of difference. This year, our fundraising focus is to send our Year 4-8 students to Camp Bentzon on Kawau Island for their end-of-year camp, with the goal of covering the entire cost without requiring financial contributions from parents.

A huge shoutout to our amazing volunteers, New World Mangawhai, our generous sponsors, and everyone who comes out to enjoy the show. You’re the real MVPs, helping us hit our fundraising goals and making each year better than the last. Thanks for being part of the Tomarata Fireworks family!
