TOMARATA SCHOOL NEWSLETTER

1st September 2010

Kia Ora koutou,

Spring is officially here! We haven't seen too many signs of it round Tomarata as yet, but the days are definitely lengthening – I almost don't need to use my headlights on the morning drive to school.
Our playgrounds are really saturated, so any rain just adds to surface water and becomes mud very quickly. We have needed to send many students home in 'spare' clothes. It is a good idea to put a spare pair of track pants or shorts in school bags, and PLEASE return any borrowed clothing to school as soon as possible. If you have any track pants, trousers or shorts that you have no further use for, they would be gratefully received to build up our supplies.

ASB Grant:
We are very excited to have received a grant from the ASB to purchase 2 computers, some shelving and books for our Library Learning Centre. They have also donated 5 recycled computer hard-drives, some monitors and printers. We are very grateful for these generous donations.

Instructional Readers:
Please return any school readers that may have been left at home. They are a vital part of our reading programme, and we need each and every one to keep our sets complete. So we will ask no questions….just send them back and we'll be delighted.

Book Fair and Library Week:
The book fair finishes tomorrow so make sure that any purchases are made before the books are sent back. We are pleased with the response from parents. Our Book Character parade was a huge success – a most entertaining event. There are some very creative students and parents out there and we even had an appearance from "Clifford, the Big Red Dog". Have a look on the class blogs for photos.

Daffodil Day:
Our gold coin trail raised $73 for the Cancer Society – thanks for your support.

Tomarata Website:
Our new provider has told us that our website will have updated newsletters as of tomorrow. Thanks

to those parents who take the time to read the class blogs and add comments.

Enrolments for 2011 Year 9's:
Two senior staff members from Rodney College will be here on Monday 13th September, from 9am to 2pm, to enrol Year 8 students for next year (Year 9). Please contact Tomarata School Office to make an appointment; each appointment will take twenty minutes. You will need to bring the following forms: Rodney College blue enrolment form (filled in), a photocopy of student's latest report and student's birth certificate (also any citizenship papers or passport with resident's visa, custody agreements, if applicable – originals).
School Photos:
These are on Friday 17th September. You should have your child/ren's Photolife envelope for these – all photos must be prepaid. If you would like to have a sibling photo taken, sibling portrait envelopes are available from the school office.
All photo money/envelopes must be at Tomarata School by Wednesday 15th September.

School Donations:

There are still quite few families who haven't paid their school donations. If you are unsure of whether or not you have paid these please contact the school office.

Please fill in the attached slip and return to the school office as soon as possible. The cut-off date for lambs and calves birthdays was the 31st August.

The games are North Harbour vs. Wellington on Sunday 10 October and North Harbour vs. Taranaki on Saturday 23rd October. If you are interested please put your name down at the office.

Kid-speak:
A junior student was sharing 'news' with the class, talking quite knowledgably about the miners who are trapped underground. Then the teacher asked her if she knew what miners were. Her reply was, "Yes…..They're birds and they are trapped in a cage and can't get out for 3 months!"
