TOMARATA SCHOOL NEWSLETTER

3 March 2010

Kia Ora koutou,

We welcomed Allan Watkins and Aroha Knight (ERO officers) to our school on Monday morning. The school sang a Maori song of welcome accompanied by some students on guitars. The officers have visited all classrooms in the school to see student learning ‘in action'. Their initial feedback meeting is planned for tomorrow morning with myself and the Board of Trustees.

Rooms 5 and 6 are involved in Beach Education today at Mangawhai Beach which includes safety in the water, especially in the surf. Thanks to all parents who have provided transport and supervision.

And yet more ukuleles….

Thanks to Wellsford Pharmacy for the donation of funds to purchase another two ukuleles. We are getting close to having a full class set.

BOT Elections:

As we mentioned in last week's newsletter nomination papers will be sent out shortly. The BOT portfolios are Personnel, Finance, and Property. If you have an interest and/or skills in these areas (especially property and property maintenance) please consider putting your name forward for nomination. Isobel Greenwood is the Returning Officer and can be contacted on 423 7049 if you have any questions. You are welcome to attend a Board meeting to gain further understanding of the role. The next one is 7.30pm, Tuesday 9 th March.

Student Voice:

We had our first Student Voice meeting last week and introduced the new Student Voice representatives to the whole school at last week's assembly. This year's reps are:

Room 3 – Trace Savage and Rebecca Wall,

Room 4 – Abbey Barnes and Michael Rankin, Room 5 – Sam Morrow and Olivia Cruickshank, Room 6 – Rory Henderson and Alexis Farr.

Rory and Alexis will also feed back information to Rooms 1 & 2.

Our Student Voice programme ensures that students have a say in a variety of matters that effect their learning and environment. They share information and seek feedback from their own classes which they then pass on at the meetings with myself. Last year the focus on Citizenship was driven by the Student Voice team. We are now reviewing and updating last year's action plan.
